Herschell

Picture
"Hershell," named after the character in the tv show "The Walking Dead," is a true rescue case! A gentleman contacted NBTMR about an Ornate monitor that he had taken in from his local pet store because they were going to throw him away.... literally.
Somehow, most likely a bite from being housed with another monitor.... Hershell lost his entire back foot and leg up to the knee. When we received him, it was an old injury but had healed poorly, leaving dead skin around the leg and about 1/2inch of bone exposed, like a peg leg. After treatment and removing the exposed bone. Hershell has healed wonderfully and doesn't seems to notice that hes different from all the rest. He has no mobility issues and can hunt down his bugs just as easily as any other monitor. He has gained weight nicely and is slowly getting more used to humans. Come spring, Hershell will go to his forever home in Florida with a very experienced Varanid keeper.

Pearl

Picture
Pearl, what a sweetheart she is! She was bounced from home to home for the first 2 years of her life. We know that at least the last 2 homes she had, didn’t even know what type of lizard she was. She was kept in a tiny cage, too cold and being fed bologna. Poor girl was treated as a childs toy so she was constantly toted around by 2 young children, somehow she came out of her situation very sweet and forgiving. She came in having several layers of stuck shed, missing toes, missing tail tip, an injury on one of her toes from getting it stuck in a light fixture. She has permanent stunted growth as well as Metabolic Bone Disease. Due to her rough past, she has found her forever home here at the rescue.
